Student Activities Funding

Brought to you by the Executive Department of Finance and the Senate

The SA is responsible for dividing up almost half a million dollars in student activities fee money each year. The EAC (Executive Appropriations Committee), the Department of Finance, the President of the Assembly and the Senate all play a role in this process, in close cooperation with the Office of Student Activities and Anita Hamlin, the Student Activities Accountant. More information on the process and on special one-time funds can be found on the Student Activities website.

This is the timeline for the annual student activities budgeting process:

  • November 1st - EAC named:
    • within 10 days - EAC issues campus-wide announcement for budget requests
  • Budget is presented to President:
    • within 5 days - organizations file objections with President's Chief of Staff
    • within 10 days - President presents budget to Senate Chair with written report or appearance before the Senate
      • within 5 days - Senate Chair presents budget to FinCom
        • within 7 days - FinCom Chair holds hearings and takes requests, Senators offer budget amendments
        • within 14 days (unless lengthened by Senate Chair) - FinCom presents budget to Senate
          • within 7 days - Senate passes budget
            • within 3 days - Senate Chair presents budget to President with written report or appearance before the President
              • within 7 days - President signs or vetoes the budget
  • If budget is vetoed:
    • within 5 days - Senate overrides or passes amended budget
      • within 3 days - Senate Chair presents budget to President with written report or appearance before the President
        • within 7 days - President signs or vetoes the budget
