Chapter 5: Special, Select and Ad-Hoc Committees

§5.5-1. Exploratory Committee on the Underpass that runs under Jamestown Road in front of Taliaferro Dormitory (The Underpass)

  1. The Committee will be established to research the cost/benefit ratio of re-opening The Underpass.
  2. It will be the committee's responsibility to work with the appropriate executive agencies for research and development of policy.
  3. The exploratory committee will also be charged with evaluating physically The Underpass to determine the current state of said Underpass. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine if opening The Underpass is viable.
  4. The committee will be required to submit a report to the Senate three weeks from the approval of this bill [which occurred on 10-1-03] and at that time may request additional time to gather further information. If no further time is required and requested, the committee will be terminated. The committee will be terminated after the 3 week period unless the committee requests more time.
  5. The committee will include the chief sponsor of this bill [Senator Wigginton] who will act as chairman and up to 4 other volunteers from the Student Assembly who may apply for the position to the chairman. The committees work will be done and the committee will be terminated once their report has been submitted. (10-1-03, SB 311-005)

§5.5-3. Save Students Money on Textbooks Senate Committee

  1. An ad-hoc committee of interested senators shall form, elect a chairman, and hold open meetings to determine the proper course of action to effectively obtain a book list and make it readily available to students at least one week before the start of classes each semester.
  2. The ad-hoc committee shall take it upon itself to implement the agreed upon course of action.
  3. The committee must give a progress report to the Senate at each Senate meeting until the policy is successfully implemented. (11-17-04, SB 312-018)
